Someone recently said to me, not for the first time, that marketing is a ‘dark art’.
Without doing myself out of a job, I’m not sure it is.
Marketing, I think, is like any other skill; you either like it, learn it & hone it or you don’t. That’s why we’re not all accountants, fitness instructors, or production experts.
There’s no real dark art to marketing, but it might just be one of those areas where you know more could be done, perhaps it’s not bringing the results expected, or it’s not seamlessly joined to your overall business objectives but you’re not sure how to make that happen.
That’s where someone like me comes in, with a wand and a cape if you like but it’s not a requisite on my part.
So if any of that 👆🏼 sounds familiar, drop me an email or find me on my socials & let’s have a cuppa to see what extra marketing magic could do for your organisation.
Working with the future
I was recently invited to Priors Mill Primary School to talk about careers and the good & bad of employment versus running a business.
We had plenty of potential top league footballers, but also huge enthusiasm to build businesses that really mattered & delivered care or support (authors, animal care, preloved circularity, sciences & research).
If this is the future of our world, then it will be on fire because these kids are excited for their next steps, diverse in their interests & love a bit of collaboration.
Well, we’ve had quite a busy time, and hopefully I’ve caught up with some of you on the way, either at Kraken at Durham Uni, Female Founder UK’s Coffee & Catchup in Yarm, Aycliffe Business Park Networking, PLMS, Durham Business Club Breakfast Meeting or at a number of the Pl_tform events, one of which I spoke at recently (if you missed it, there’s a link below 👇🏼).
How to market sustainability at pl_tform
I was very kindly invited by the formidable Paul Lancaster, founder of pl_tform and UK Startup Week, to deliver a 15 minute ‘show and tell’ session all around how to utilise sustainability in marketing to boost brand reputation and presence to deliver financial gains, positive enivornmental impact and social values.
It was recently announced that the Ministry of Defence (MoD) is looking to open up channels of work for small & medium businesses in the defence sector with spend allocation and a new SME ‘Hub’ set up.
It’s a great initiative to take advantage of the brilliant idea generation, agility & creative talent of SME’s across the UK, and also a fabulous way for job creation within the MoD itself.
I know some amazing people/businesses that should be in this space. Could it be you?
